All good things come to an end.
A note from Jake (Team Hydra) about /Media and /Plex:
This mirror has been serving roughly 5 TB of traffic every day against a 40 TB library backed by a wall of physical disks. That kind of pull is unsustainable for one person to keep running on a home connection, and the wear on the disks (plus the bandwidth contention) was starting to cause outages and buffering for my family and friends on the Plex server that lives on the same storage.
I really didn't want to take it down. A few users abusing the open mirror made it impossible to keep this open to the world, so a small bit of friction is what's left to give it a chance at staying online for the people who'll use it responsibly.
Here's how it works now:
- Apply once with your email + a short note about why you'd use it.
- Once approved, enter your email here and we'll send you a magic link.
- Clicking the link whitelists your current IP for 90 days, no passwords.
- If your IP changes (new ISP, mobile, travel), just re-enter your email to get a new link.
If you'd like to help cover the disk replacements and the bandwidth bill, there's a donate link in the footer. No pressure.
Enter your email to continue
One box, both cases. We look up your email and route you accordingly:
- New here? We'll take you to a short application form.
- Already approved? We'll email this address a magic link that authorizes the IP you're on right now.
- Application pending or denied? We'll tell you where you stand.
